Unfortunately the Cowplands' personal financial misadventures do affect the company's share price.
From October of 1997 ( Andrew McIntosh The Ottawa Citizen )
Mr. Cowpland has denied he profited from insider information when he sold his shares, saying he believed Corel would meet its targets for its third quarter, despite its market share losses. He said he needed the cash to pay debts.

BTW JC: The stock has never again touched the price that MC sold his shares for that fateful summer of ‘97.

What do you think would have happened to Corel's share price had MC used the million bucks to buy Corel stock instead of a new Cat Suit for his wife?
