now that i've got it solved, and see what it was, i can bitch. my day job is tech support, so i've got a little clue as to what goes on with computers. when i called up, i told their support guy that "the netscape icon hasn't moved, no pop-up windows ever appeared to say download, etc." and he had no good answer except to "call pulse support".

i think the right word might be understaffed / not properly trained...this was a problem that should come up with a lot of people.

(btw, it was netscape 4.5).
