San Francisco, April 10 (Bloomberg) -- Leading Internet
auctioneer eBay Inc. is in talks with Butterfield & Butterfield
Auctioneers Corp., a venerable San Francisco auction house, about
a joint venture and may announce an alliance soon, the San
Francisco Examiner and Reuters reported, citing sources close to
the companies. Butterfield would offer premium items for auction
to a separate area of the eBay Web site. EBay has filed a
document with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
regarding the venture, Reuters said.

Butterfield wants to go public and has filed for an initial
public offering of 1.5 million shares.
