This is silliness. As Emile said, US aid to Israel amounts to $7 bills, a paltry sum even for impoverished African nations. The Israelis are more than capable of standing on their own feet, which they have more than adequately shown in every Arab-Israeli conflict to date, even when they are not only vastly outnumbered by taken by surprise and the country cut in half. The fact that they are able to capably defend a country that can be spanned by an air to air missile (!) is testamony to their fitness. In none of these conflicts has the US, or the world for that matter, aided them. Always the world through the UN has acted to save the Arabs from total rout, however. So much for Israel being "propped up" by the US.
The key point in mid east anger towards the US is a no-brainer. Any nation that recognizes the legitimacy of the State of Israel is a pariah in Arab eyes, including their own (anyone care to remember the cold shoulder Egypt got after signing that treaty with Israel?) We likewise incur the dislike of Israelis for pushing a conclusion to the Palestinian problem in the West Bank. |
