They are overdue for a huge quake according to a PBS documentary I watched some time back. They had it figured out and it was convincing that a devastating quake would happen every so often in China, but it hasn't arrived on schedule this time! They also showed an ancient Chinese earthquake alert. It was two gold dragons with gold balls in their mouths. When the gold balls dropped out into a bowl an earthquake was imminent. I don't know if that really worked, but the Chinese are very concerned about earthquakes.
