I don't have a concise handle on all of T's strategic outlooks at this time. They have an angel which is sprouting new wings (Project Angel, their wireless initiative).
T is promoting the use of dedicated lines and DSLs for their INC offering, which is their answer to the end-to-end offerings of MCI (OnNet) and FON (ION), and they are also exploring in their labs some new and less expensive T1/T2 initiatives to some residential community- and small business- profiles, to carry IP services.
They're not standing still on cable alone, in other words.
I couldn't say if any of the above is tied into their "walking" away from any one of them. They are still exploring all of them, as well they should. The one thing I can surmise, however, is that they are seeing much more of a challenge with the cable modem venue than they originally bargained for. And as much as they have been at the forefront of evangelizing VoIP, they are still going into voice, in the early stages at least, with a switched model. They are doing this, all the while promising (actually, hoping for) improvements in pricing and architectural issues to follow in the IP model. We shall see.
