dellish 3...re ibm...
agree, just trying to point out the reality of what can and does happen...gerstner setting the stage when making a comment.."the pc is dead"..if you were management of this ibm group, wouldn't you start updating your cv...as far as infighting, the fighting weakens when a group becomes a liability...this is identical in many ways to westinghouse...their oem group sold parts, technology to competition..who like a dell were more aggressive marketers and more efficient producers than the internal group....if dell, the competition is gaining share against your pc group...why give them the ammunition required to shoot yourself in the foot...same ibm and emc...its one thing to sell your sweet bananas to a chimp...who'll just savor them as he benignly scratches his ass...but to provide to a gorilla, who will strengthen, and ultimately take your bananas away from you...
a company as large as ibm, or ge, or westinghouse, with multiple business groups that no longer considered as "family" trends toward keeping company with the "relatives" or "strangers" who pay for their meals...
many interesting scenarios...dell will be in the middle, and oft times what is posted on this thread is more valid than what the analyst come up with...good luck, your comments apprreciated..ed a. |
