"What do you think of leaps 2001"

i almost always buy the most distant in time option i can. that gives me time. if i change my mind, i can always sell a long term option.

on the other hand if you buy short term, say may or july, you may not have time to recover if the market dips or goes sideways.

"85% of options expiring worthless"

even if true this is irrelevant in my opinion. since most of the activity in options is in short term out of the money, most of them are bound to become worthless. but the buyer has to potential to make 2, 3 or ten or more times one's investment.

if buying options was such a poor investment, we could all become rich selling them.
