I've been trying to think of some small way that I could also help in your Kosovo effort. When my own kids were little and upset, I would always give them a stuffed toy to hold for comfort. It occurred to me that while you are providing the necessities, perhaps we could arrange for something--like the teddy bear in the police car idea.
I wrote the following letter to TY's promotional company (CYRK) requesting Beanie Babies for the trip. If anyone has a better connection to TY, a better idea, or something to add, please feel free to chime in. Her e-mail address is listed below--two or more requests might be more effective than just mine. . .I don't know, what do you think, Anthony. . .this may even be too much to "carry", considering all of your other plans.

Dear Maryann,
I am very impressed with the amount of charitable contributions in which
Ty and Beanie Babies participate . . such as the "Maryville City of
Youth"--a residential child-care facilities for abused and neglected
children, WGN-Radio "Chicago Neediest Kids Fund" for support at the
holidays, Rosie O'Donnell's "Toys for Tots" program--as well as several
local charities. You care about the kids!
I would like to introduce you to Mr. Anthony Elgindy, who will be
leaving for Kosovo in a few days, to personally make a difference. He
will be travelling with a major news organization and his purpose is to
set up a "Displaced childrens' center", to provide for them a temporary home,
shoes and coats.
I've been trying to figure out how I can help. . .I've considered buying
and sending 100 beanie-babies with him. . .but the mission is bigger
than just me. So, I've come to you. Will you consider sending along
beanie babies with Anthony so he can not only give them a roof, shoes,
and a coat, but also a toy to hold. When the news footage comes
through, I want to see him not only bringing necessities, but also a bit of comfort and joy.
Will you please consider joining this effort? I look forward to hearing
