Kendall,

re: "The company sees no weakness in demand because of competition or the Year 2000 problem, Dury said.

The Year 2000 computer glitch causes some older computer programs to read the year 2000 as 1900. Corporations have slowed spending on software to fix the problem, hurting sales at some software companies such as PeopleSoft Inc."

A lot of software companies' stocks are diving now and have been for a few months. Whether a particular company will be hurt by the Y2k issue isn't as important as the perception. This issue could be acting like a dark cloud over software companies in general, simply because investors are worried about it. It can be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Now, the good news. This issue is temporary. It can't last much past Jan 1, 2000. Can it? And as the light at the end of the tunnel starts to appear, software stocks might come back into favor and rally like we've never seen. Many of these stocks are off as much as 70%. We'll be going from an environment of pessimism to relief and elation, as the issue passes into history.

Also, since the stock market typically anticipates actual events, the rally might begin around mid year.

It might be an opportunity like we'll never see again to load up on all the beaten up software stocks.

Just some food for thought. Good luck.
