ed a: I suppose the classical definition of a commodity perhaps doesn't apply to computers a 100% but they do seem to have some similarities.

Anyway it doesn't really matter as the way Dell makes money has more to do with the logistics [otherwise know as The Dell Model] and less to do with the product itself [not saying the products are not important].Dell is probably one of the few companies in the major leagues who make money by spending very little of their own [that there is the killer application if you will],I think this is what most people fail to understand.
