Well folks Im off for a week to teach a prospecting course up at Great Bear Lake but befor I leave thought I would pass this on. In Jan/feb Economic Geology which I just got in mail on page 144 under reviews Kimberlites, Orangeites, Lamproites, Melilitites and Minettes:A Petrographic Altas by Roger H.Mitches price $100. to quote from review "Most of the plates are of kimberlite, the main primarÿ sources of diamonds. Lamprolites and organgeites the other primary sources of diamonds, are also well represented. Many of the samples come from mines or prospects. The remaining two rock types, minettes and melitites, although considered uneconomic, are frequently encountered during exploration. Distinction of the different rock types is a vital part of both exploration programs and petrogenetic studies. The distinction however, is not always straightforward, given that contrasting rocks may belong to the same petrological clan (rock type) and petrographically similar rocks may belong to different clans."" Sounds like a great book and I plan to get me one, wouldnt want to waste my time on a melilitite thinking it was an orangeite:) regards all Walt |
