William Gibson. Wrote Neuromancer, a must-read. Everything by William Gibson is good.

Philip K. Dick. Wrote Ubik, The Man in the High Castle, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Dick had three different levels - sometimes he wrote as a hack, which was ok; sometimes he wrote as a writer, which was excellent; but his later stuff, such as Valis and everything afterwards is, in my opinion, turgid and not worth the effort.

Joanna Russ. She appeals more to females than men, she is a feminist and I think she is gay. When It Changed is a definite 10 if you are a feminist. Likewise The Female Man. My favorite short story, I can't remember its name, is something like But I Alone Am Left To Tell My Tale..

James Tiptree, Jr. Actually a woman, formerly employed by the CIA. Well, she's dead now, but she worked for the CIA, then retired or quit or something and wrote science fiction, not enough, unfortunately. Her description of edge behavior is the best I ever read, I think she may have been some kind of psychologist. The best things she wrote are a couple of short stories, The Women Men Don't See and The Psychologist Who Wouldn't Do Awful Things to Rats.

Who do you like?
