Gary- The question is: Why would IBM be anymore successful than Compaq's attempts at emulating the direct model. Remember, IBM has been steadily losing market share each year, and had a horrible record (profitability) as a producer...Compaq, despite glitches, has done better than that (market share gains, profitable)...Is there some reason why IBM now, all of a sudden, will outdo Compaq here...doesn't seem likely, does it?
Surely IBM has similiar or worse cost structure, execution, and channel problem as Compaq...
I am open to any evidence you have that would prove that IBM can pull this off (where Compaq obviously, at least so far, has not..) |
