the term can be applied to anything, in the form of speaking of any class of goods in a generic fashion...

further to your comments, and to rebut those that blatantly use the term...we must recognize that even a true commodity producer does not always have the same cost basis as his competition...e.g...alaskan north slope oil has higher production cost than arabian gulf oil...same commodity, but if priced identical to the market, one would be less profitable..

you understand as i and many on the thread that dells advantage is in its manufacturing efficiency and sales model....which equates to a basic business rule, that applies to all businesses be they commodity or high tech.... a low cost producer has an inherent market advantage over a high cost producer

do you think they will ever grasp this basic concept???
