The only thing of Mr. Dick I have read is the Dorsai fiction, which got expanded into something called the "Childe cycle". Like Frankie Herbert, it became steadily more labyrinthine, pretentious and self-referent.

Have you read the stuff of Lois McMaster Bujold? Fabulous. I wish I could wipe my memory and have it all over again. Start with "Shards of Honor".
