How to know whether one is hunting or hunted...

Which would be why TA has not totally failed ..

Say that a client wishes to pick up a large block of XYZ .. XYZ is a stock that trades on a fair volume and has a well known support line that never breaks. The next time that XYZ drops down to the well known support line start dumping blocks at ask below the support line. Every time that it tries to move back up nail it again until it becomes obvious that it is going to head down. At that time momentum would continue to move it down until your short shares are repurchased and your clients shares are purchased .. or wait until some bearish formation (well known, of course) has almost formed and provide the last few block trades that complete the formation. When the TA traders start to short and dump fill your clients order.

Now then .. that method (as you pointed out) leaves the perpetrators open to observation by folks watching activities on Level 2 screens. Larger players note that you are playing with the charts and wait for you to try to set up the next play. The next attempt results in the TA formation being confirmed regardless of how much money got thrown at it.

Yes .. the method could not be used every time. However I've been noting that many times lately people have been saying things like .. "the markets are getting very hard to read", "This has not been a reliable chart formation lately", "the formation was negated", "normaly I would expect to see .."

Hummmmmm .. does this post complete the loop? Probably not....

But you shoulda seen the charts jump when I did this (hehehehe)
