AGNI Missle (continued..)---->

Sunday April 11, 7:51 am Eastern Time

India-missile-weapon New Delhi

''Today's launch demonstrated our missile launch capabilities. This means being able to move in rugged areas with a compact system. This is a solid propulsion system and the range is in excess of 2,000 km (1,250 miles),'' Fernandes said.

The United States, Britain and Japan all expressed regret after the test-firing of the upgraded version of Agni from off India's eastern coast state of Orissa and called for restraint on missile development.

''This concerns our national security. No one can put pressure on us. We don't need to be told by anybody about restraint,'' Fernandes said.

India's Hindu nationalist-led government, which stunned the world with a series of nuclear tests 11 months ago, last year cleared plans for the development of Agni's second phase. The missile is seen as a potential deterrent to India's nuclear armed neighbour to the north, China.
