To what extent is Mason controlled by EP?

There is a lot of bashing of Earl Mason on the thread but is he an independent agent, able to say what he wants or ultimately controlled by EP, the CEO?

Never having worked in the business sector, I honestly do not know how much power and control a CEO has over others.
