SAN FRANCISCO, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- For engineers and designers working with digital signal processing (DSP) technology, the product exhibition at the upcoming DSP World Spring Design Conference provides one of the best opportunities this year to see the tools and technologies needed to create hot new electronic systems. The show floor will feature more than 50 new products, including advanced processor architectures, software tools and multiprocessor development boards, as well as an exciting demonstration of 10.2 channel sound made possible by advances in DSP technology.

More than 75 companies will participate in the April 27-28 product exhibition at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. It is part of a three-day technical conference which features a program of 59 classes and full-day tutorial sessions on the issues involved in working with digital signal processing to design next-generation products.

"The pace of innovation in DSP technology continues to accelerate, reflecting the increasing range of DSP applications and their commercial importance," said Jeff Bier, general manager and co-founder of DSP analysis and software firm Berkeley Design Technology, Inc. "This trend is most evident in the number of sophisticated new processors being developed. The exhibition at DSP World Spring will include at least six new processors, many featuring unusual, advanced architectures."

Among the advanced products shown for the first time, Motorola Semiconductor Products and Lucent, Inc. will unveil a processor architecture that is the first new product from their Star*Core joint design team. Other processor designs that will be exhibited at DSP World Spring include products from Analog Devices, DSP Group, Frontier Design, Hyperstone Electronics, and Siemens AG.

Bier, who is a co-presenter of three different classes at DSP World Spring, also said, "While processors will get a lot of attention, we'll also see a variety of tools, application software, development boards, and third-party support for application development on the show floor. Innovative products in these categories include debugging tools, multiprocessor development boards, and software libraries."

Also on the show floor, attendees will have the opportunity to experience one of the world's most advanced sound systems. Developed by TMH Corporation, this experimental 10.2 channel audio system is able to reproduce sound that is so realistic that it approaches the limits of human perception. Every thirty minutes, attendees will have the opportunity to experience the impact of this system which has only been demonstrated to the public once before.

The president of TMH Corporation, Tomlinson Holman, will discuss the demonstration in a keynote speech at the conference on Tuesday, April 27 at 5:15 p.m. He will address how the demand for near perfect audio-visual experiences presents exciting challenges and opportunities for designers and engineers working with DSP technology.

Other special events at the DSP World Spring Design Conference include two panel discussions on DSP architectures. On Tuesday, April 28 at 1:15 p.m. registered conference attendees can attend a panel titled, " DSP Architectures: The Final Showdown?" Moderated by Krishna Yarlgadda, president and CEO of AVAJ Corporation, the panel members will include key technologists from major DSP chip vendors including Texas Instruments, Lucent Technologies, Analog Devices, and Motorola.

On Wednesday, April 28 at 10:00 a.m., a plenary session titled, "The Future of DSP -- Separate or Merging Architectures?" will be moderated by Henry Davis, who writes for publications such as EDTN, COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS DESIGN, and EDN's DSP and Wireless Supplements. Registered attendees are also invited to participate in a freeform discussion with the DSP World Spring faculty and the Technical Advisory Committee at a "Meet the Speakers" breakfast on Wednesday morning.

The DSP World Spring Design Conference is produced by Miller Freeman, Inc. and is co-sponsored by EMBEDDED SYSTEMS PROGRAMMING, COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS DESIGN, and ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING TIMES magazines. Other shows produced by Miller Freeman's EOEM (Electronic Original Equipment Manufacturer) show group include DSP World Featuring ICSPAT and the Embedded Systems Conferences.
