I am sure you are concerned about alleged atrocities. I would imagine all of us are.

Unfortunately
(a) The bombing, by increasing Serb anger and fear, has made the atrocities worse, not better
(b) The bombing has also contributed significantly to the Abanians (and others) leaving Kosovo

It is therefore my view that the so-called atrocities are merely the excuse for the NATO intervention, and not the reason. In fact, alleged atrocities are hardly an excuse for a manifestly illegal act of military intervention in the internal affairs of a sovereign state. If any agency was to intervene, it was the responsibility of UN, not NATO, which is an organisation specifically set-up to protect against former USSR aggression in Europe. NATO is not and never was a moral policeman. The UN has chosen not to intervene. And Russia and China in the security council voted against it. I'm not sure about France.

Serbia is not interested in colonial expansion into neighbouring countries. That threat, in fact, comes from the Albanians who, besides Albania and Kosovo, also live in Montenegro and Macedonia. And it is the Albanians --- and the KLA --- who are now, for whatever reason, being supported by NATO. You may recall that, within months of Tito's death, the Albanians of Kosovo agitated for independence --- long before Milosevic was known about. And long before Slovenia tried to break away from the federation --- a move which was totally opposed by the US and Britain.

It is, in my opinion, the Albanians who are wrong. They lived for years in Kosovo but did not integrate, retaining their own language and customs. It is they, in fact, who practiced ethnic cleansing and over the years pushed the Serbs out, diminishing the Serb part of the population from over 50% to about 10%. Meanwhile, Serbia did not retaliate, except against the KLA, always regarding the Albanian Kosovars as citizens of Yugoslavia (Serbia).

I am sure the Albanians feel a lot "safer" now that NATO "cares", as you call it. As regards a no-win situation --- yes, no-one in the region can win now --- certainly not the Serbs and hardly the Albanians. That is why the continued presence of NATO is simply an attempt at bullying Serbia and extracting revenge. And, of course, an ego trip for your President.
