Is this to imply/state/infer that I am amongst the "doomers?"

If this is so, I do take great insult at such a label. It is certainly NOT the sort of label that my Westergaard fan mail brings.

I'll go back later & take a deeper look at Ratcliffe's site, but a quick glance said that (1) he's only been doing technology for about 15 years, and (2) it's been with peeceeweenie toys.

With about 15 years of experience under your belt one tends to think that what you're working with is revolutionary and bleeding edge... when one eventually crosses over into "old goat" territory like me, then one sees very little change.

If you can find someone who can show me the fundamental differences between a PDS (partioned dataset), a directory & a folder, do let me know.

The PC centric world seems to think that the neat stuff they've been producing (don't get me wrong, I like my 7 Machintoshes a whole lot better than any mainframe I tended) replaces what has come before. Not true. The foundations of social data processing laid by mainframes/minicomputers is still humming away. Only because those earlier foundations have proved to be (so far) so sturdy & reliable have we been able to add fingernail polish at the edges... PCs, client/server, Internet, e-commerce.

Take away the foundation & the edges collapse.
