For those who don't know, the My Word programme is the world's most popular radio quiz show, in which two teams of two contestants each battle it out in a game about words. The highlight of the programme is the contestants' attempt to derive an improbable origin (which is to say an extended shaggy dog story, usually with groaners along the way to the horrendous pay-off) for a quotation or famous phrase. The original programme was devised by Tony Schriam and Edward Jay-Mason, and may be heard on NPR; it has been adapted for Potlatch by Dan'l Danehy-Oakes.

Actually it has more features than that. Guests are generally authors that have superior command of language and use their skills in cute and creative ways.
