Exploration - Update on the Solomon Island Exploration Program

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 1997--Western Pacific
Mini(ME WPC.) Pursuant to a request by the Montreal Exchange,
Western Pacific Mining Exploration Inc. is pleased to provide the
following update on the Solomon Island exploration program.

The exploration program has begun earlier this month. Vince
Palma, John Dickson (Watts Griffs McOuat) and Dr. St-Julien (Western
Pacific) have been on site these past weeks visiting each property.
They have evaluated most calderas, studied radar sat. pictures and
made specific recommendations for the drilling program to begin on
Fauro Island.

Surface sample programs will begin in a few days and will be
followed immediately be the drilling program.

Also, the most recent edition of "THE PROSPECTOR" included an
article on Western Pacific.

The Company knows of no other material facts which would explain
the recent market activities.
