I don't disagree with a word you say, but I thought Chuzzlewit's point is well-taken, that there are many instances in the Old Testament where acts are attributed to God that are unacceptable to us, plagues and such. I am not as familiar with Leviticus as Chuzzlewit, we didn't spend any time on it at all when I studied religion in Catholic school, my recollection was that it had all kind of fallen by the wayside, stuff like putting women in ritual baths due to menstruation and all is not part of Christianity. I can't explain why.
