PP: Can we expect CPQ saying anything at all tomorrow morning?

You can expect anything and predict nothing. I would assume that there has been intense brainstorming in the pigsty this weekend. I would hope that the 2-day Innovate Forum which begins on Tuesday was already finalised and they have been devoting themselves to the crisis.

My best guess is that they will tough it out on Monday. On Tuesday they will make any big announcement they are going to make.

As I have already suggested the most effective one they can make is regarding an AV spin-off, and shares to shareholders. They could maximise the impact of this by trailing it tomorrow (today for me) i.e. "Compaq will announce its plans for AV IPO on Tuesday at Innovate Forum".

The second best announcement would be that they are active in the market buying shares under the provisions of the on-the-shelf authorisation or that they are expanding that authorisation.

The third best would be if they made an announcement about the enhanced profit margins of non-PC products with a rosy estimate of 2Q and 1999 sales. I think they might just be able to do that without breaching the "quiet period".

What will they do? Something incompetent.
