Sidney, I am the first one to admit my very limited knowledge of the Bible, but I suppose that's what confuses me. When is a covenant not a covenant?

The word God gave to Cain was not a covenant between God and mankind. It was just God saying what He would do for Cain. God was not required to, He had not given His word YET that He would ever do anything for man.

So if I understand you, God gave his word, but because it wasn't a covenant, it didn't count. I guess God had his fingers crossed, huh? And the covenant with Abraham wasn't a covenant at all because? Are you suggesting that God lied? Or maybe suckered the ancient Jews into believeing he made promises he had no intention of keeping? Is that what you're suggesting.

And here you jump off the deep end: You want to blame God for the stupid actions of deluded men who think they are doing some service for God, but are not.

No, I blame men for their own stupidity and short-sightedness. When you hold a belief that has no basis in observable evidence, and indeed when all of the available evidence argues that your belief is incorrect you have only yourself to blame.

My premise was that the Bible did not provide an immutable basis for morality. In the course of disputing my point you have provided me with additional evidence for my point: you believe that a deceitful God is portrayed in the OT. I agree.
