Compaq is slumping because more and more people are building their machines (clones) from local computer stores.....for a far cheaper price. My machine would cost over $2,300 at Future Shop with a Compaq sticker on in but I can get the same machine built at Joe's Computer Mart for about $1,500. It's no wonder the giant manufactures are feeling the pinch.
