Thanks Colin, that gets me over the first hurdle knowing that trader status is available for partnerships. If two traders share a trading account which is in only one of their names and is reported as such on one social security number, can the traders still file for 1998 as partners, thereby dropping to a lower tax bracket with the income divided into two K1s.

If so does the partnership apply for trader status and MTM, or do the two traders do this separately. Maybe I should cover all bases and apply for all three. What do you think?
