" Intel is involved with their own Motherboard manufacturing - primarily to boost the sale of new CPUs, as well as their SHV - Standard High Volume Server board business. However, the MB business is LOW MARGIN business and, as you said, capitol intensive. Intel is willing to let those that want to do MBs do it - there are plenty of players - particularly in Taiwan.
