Paul, thanks for the info, and I understand what you're saying. I'm still not sure if I agree with Intel's stance regarding the low margin side of the industry, but I'll give it some more thought.

My instinct tells me that a lot of the problems related to the quality and ease of use of computers are related around the motherboard. Design, quality and ability to integrate a variety of components effortlessly would help alleviate the fear novice PC users still have regarding their first purchase. Intel, as the dominant force, should steer the industry toward consolidation by partnering with some of the leaders.

On a different but related issue....The giants still need to make the PC easier to operate and function in order to reach the 50% non-PC owners still out there.

Hooking up a modem, scanner, camera, etc. etc. shouldn't be anywher near as hard as it is.
