LONDON, April 12 (Reuters) - Britain's General Electric Co Plc said on Monday its telecoms equipment subsidiary Marconi Communications, has won two orders for integrated military communications systems valued at 136 million pounds ($219.7 million).
One of the contracts, worth more than 100 million pounds, is from the Romanian Ministry of Defence for a communications system to be used throughout its army, navy and air force, said the company.
The system comprises a national backbone of 400 fixed and transportable radio communications centres, which is scheduled for completion in 2002, said the company.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence has ordered a communications package worth 36 million pounds as part of a programme to make the systems used by its armed forces compatable with those used by NATO members.
The order was the first in which the Bulgarian Ministry invited tenders from international suppliers for a military contract, said GEC. |
