rudedog: One COMPAQ source message I received today from overseas said that it has been explained by at least one executive as a wrong mix of products - with too much emphasis on the low-margin stuff. For a comprehensive view we will have to await the numbers.

I prefer she_x version to yours, although your's is probably more accurate. I don't like the idea of facing 1Q costs in 2Q unless they do the same for 2Q.

What did you think of PC Magazine link from hio which assessed the progress of the DEC acquisition. Most criticism seems to allege that COMPAQ has not aggressively sold the services capabilites it got from DEC or applied it to its whole range - although one informant disagreed and cited anecdotal service contract wins.
