This British Telecom-AT&T collaboration looks interesting... both are involved in the Chinese mobile telecom market and apparently are eyeing the possibility of increasing their presence. Chinese telecom market grows so fast it is currently expanding by the equivalent of one BT every year.

AT&T is apparently very serious about fusing TDMA with GSM in future applications - both Nokia and Ericsson have been commissioned to come up with TDMA/GSM multimode handsets that will make true global roaming possible next winter. ATT's new US infrastructure gear is designed to support data features that will be shared by GSM and TDMA in the near future.
