Thomson I-Watch Mid-day Update

CPQ Personal Computers - Technology 11:12 AM
Shares of Compaq are down $6 1/2 to $24 7/16 on strong
institutional trading as investors react to Friday's earnings
shortfall pre-announcement. The stock traded as low as $23 1/8
early in today's session and has been trending higher since
then. The most recent I-Watch super messages show
institutional brokers bidding for stock in the $24 3/8 to 7/16
range. The pre-market data suggests Compaq's discounted price
will continue to attract bids. A recent super message from
a large institutional broker for 5 million shares at $24 shows
that there is some "Smart Money" viewing today's decline as a buying
opportunity. The value/growth investors are the most likely
potential buyers today while momentum and aggressive growth
oriented institutions remain the most inclined to sell. Trading
in Compaq will remain unusually volatile today. The Thomson
I-Watch reported trade data pie chart illustrates that
institutional brokers are dominating trading as the big players
adjust their holdings to reflect Compaq's new outlook.
