Tangram (SFE company) Joins Dell Openmanage Alliance Program
CARY, N.C. (April 12) BUSINESS WIRE -April 12, 1999--
Asset Insight(R) To Deliver Asset Tracking Solutions to Enterprise Customers
As part of its long-term commitment to increasing desktop manageability and lowering the cost of PC ownership, Tangram Enterprise Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:TESI) announced today that it has joined the Dell(R) OpenManage(tm) Alliance.
Launched in 1997, the Dell OpenManage Alliance is designed to help Dell customers save time, resources, and money by providing them with industry-standard applications that address systems management and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) needs enterprise-wide.
As an OpenManage member, Tangram officials say its enterprise-wide asset tracking solution, Asset Insight, will be marketed to Dell's extensive customer base through Dell's OpenManage Alliance Web site at dell.com. Moreover, by joining the program, Tangram officials say it will gain access to new and emerging Dell technology, which Tangram can incorporate into Asset Insight's automated discovery process and reporting capabilities. Dell customers can also realize several important benefits. For instance, Dell customers will be able to tie Dell's procurement information, such as workstation components and associated costs, to the inventory data discovered by Asset Insight. As a result, customers will be able to verify the installation and costs of purchased and leased assets, and assign these costs to the appropriate business units.
As a market leader in enterprise-wide asset tracking, Asset Insight is used by organizations worldwide to make informed business decisions, address desktop Year 2000 issues, plan technology migrations, deploy and manage enterprise systems management suites, and reduce the costs associated with owning, installing, purchasing and managing IT resources. Using a sophisticated discovery process, Asset Insight automatically tracks and audits current and historical information about workstations, servers and infrastructure devices, including installed software, hardware components, operating systems and configuration files. Specifically, on a scheduled or ad hoc basis, an active desktop agent discovers asset configuration information, and transfers this information to a central repository. Once in the repository, organizations can use Asset Insight's graphical interface to generate reports and analyses that support lifecycle asset management and TCO initiatives.
"We are pleased to have Tangram as a member of the OpenManage Alliance," said Bill Peterson, director of OptiPlex(R) desktop marketing for Dell Computer Corporation. "As a premier asset tracking solution, Asset Insight can provide our customers with a solid solution to address desktop manageability in the enterprise, as well as outstanding support for our industry standard instrumentation."
According to Steve Kuekes, Tangram's chief technology officer, Tangram's participation in the Dell program illustrates the critical nature of asset tracking and the unique set of features that Asset Insight brings to the Dell systems management equation. "Whether Dell's customers are addressing Y2K desktop problems or planning technology migrations, they must know what assets they have and how those assets are changing," Kuekes stated. "With Asset Insight, Dell's customers can have this information at their fingertips."

Presently, Asset Insight can be pre-installed on Dell systems, including OptiPlex(R) desktops, Latitude(R) notebooks, Dell Precision(tm) workstations and PowerEdge(R) servers, through the DellPlus Custom Factory Integration service or purchased through DellWare(R).
