WASHINGTON (April 12) BUSINESS WIRE -April 12, 1999--

Steve Coffey of Media Metrix to serve as Vice-Chairman of AIM's Advisory Board

Michael Carey, Senior Vice President of New Media for The Weather Channel(TM), today was named the new Chairman of the Association for Interactive Media's Advisory Board making him the voice of the interactive industry for the nation's largest member-run new media association.

AIM also announced that Steve Coffey, Executive Vice President and Vice-Chairman of Media Metrix, has been appointed to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board.

The Advisory Board is the only representative body formed to serve the business interests of the new media industry. The group's work will help direct an overall industry-wide focus on growing new media businesses and furthering AIM's role as the premier lobbying and trade association for Internet-focused companies.

"With the accelerated growth of the Internet as a proven medium, we are already seeing serious challenges to the development of the new media industry," said Michael Carey, chairman of AIM's Advisory Board. "This Advisory Board represents the only true cross-industry group that is furthering the business interests associated with the development of interactive services. As the digital economy continues to allow businesses to leverage the power of the Internet and develop new interactive delivery platforms, we will work with the more than 350 member-companies that are a part of AIM in guiding a concerted effort to encourage and protect the growth of this industry."

"Mike Carey is a proven leader. Throughout his entire career Mike has tirelessly worked to integrate interactive communications into companies' existing markets," said Ben Isaacson, Vice President and Acting Executive Director of AIM. "Mike's leadership will ensure the new media industry continues to grow in a way that enables companies to apply their depth of talents and breadth of resources in helping this industry mature. In addition, Steve Coffey is a strong compliment to Mike. As one of the preeminent analytical minds studying the new media explosion, Steve's insights and observations will continue to add structure and methodology to this vital business segment."

At a planning meeting held earlier this year, the Advisory Board identified a number of issues important to the industry and developed a strategic plan which it will help AIM implement, to promote and protect Internet business. This plan includes strategies to 1) work closely with policy makers to safeguard new media interests, 2) foster industry-wide collaboration to raise consumer and business confidence in interactive transactions, 3) implement self-policing ethical codes and business guidelines needed to ensure economic success, and 4) further strengthen the collective voice of the new media industry through the continued development of the Association.
