Compaq is down in the gutter today because of pre-warning on earnings.

I was in a Chicago area CPU store yesterday. It was very busy. They had some manufacturer reps which was nice. A lot of employees around - the store was very well staffed and they were friendly and helpful.

To the people that expect these employees to have PHDs in Computer Science, these stores are working on razor thin margins. They can only afford to hire and train people accordingly. If you want the most knowledgable people, go to a local independent store and pay out the ass and select from 1/10th of what CPU has. I think they are able to answer basic questions. If you go to Best Buy, Office Max or Circuit City, I don't think they are any more knowledgable and I think they are under-staffed.
