Maybe it's the difference between "necessary" and "sufficient" condition. The individual's keen interest is necessary but not sufficient for the gain in these desiderata. A healthy social matrix is a big plus. But the shuttle will stay on the pad if the well-supported individual lacks the requisite ambition. Jmho
