AboveNet named DoubleClick service provider

NEW YORK, April 12 (Reuters) - Online advertising firm DoubleClick Inc. (Nasdaq:DCLK - news) has selected AboveNet Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:ABOV - news) to operate computers that control its Web service, AboveNet said Monday.

Under the deal, the San Jose, Calif. company will operate DoubleClick Web server computers that link the advertising firm to the Net and manage traffic on its network, AboveNet said in a statement.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

DoubleClick, based in New York, said AboveNet offers a high degree of scalability -- the ability to handle fluctuations in traffic volume -- and faster Internet services.

Traffic on the DoubleClick network includes data to help companies manage online advertising and track its performance.

Shares of AboveNet closed at $104.88 Friday, down $1.88.DoubleClick closed at $128.88, down $4.31.
