Three major index groups from which to choose: S&P, Russell and Wilshire. S&P has BARRA separate its indexes into growth and value baskets; Wilshire and Russell do it themselves. I probably trust BARRA a little more than the others, and I dislike Russell and Wilshire's tendency to overlap constituents (in style & cap, repectively). If you're screening large stocks, you probably want the S&P 500 Growth; I think S&P even publishes the securities in their indexes on the web: spglobal.com -mb
