I agree that "our" (meaning your and my) arguing isn't about conflict, but about forging ideas, sharing knowledge, understanding, and other good stuff. I wish I could say that for everyone. Some people can't tolerate dissent and disagreement, don't like having their truisms challenged, feel threatened by uncertainty and ambiguity. I'd be happy to ignore such people, but history shows us that these people are exactly the ones who won't let us ignore them.
I am intrigued by the concept that "trust" matters here. I trust your intentions, is that what you mean? And even if I didn't, I trust you, personally, to leave me, personally, alone, that is, unscathed, even if we disagree. |
