Howie,

Why would Dan Niles stick his neck on the line one day before INTC
earnings report unless he knew what he was doing?

Niles did the same thing with Dell a couple of days before their last earnings release in February (he forecast their sales would be light by 4%). Niles got crucified, the Dell thread had him being outfitted for cement boots and other Dell thread-like behavior. He turned out to be right. Like Process Boy said, though, the downgrade on Intel could be called a downgrade-lite.

Got the RealPlayer all warmed up for the conference call tomorrow. In the wake of the Compaq bomb, seems it will require pretty carefully thought out opening remarks from Otellini and Bryant, as well as careful responses to the analysts' questions. You know the analysts will be trying to set some traps. Fortunately those two Intel guys have been there quite a few times and have to be trusted.

Tony
