I've got a feeling that any further alliance between Dell and IBM, and the announcement thereof, will be be held at least until Dell earning's date. This can/will then be used much like last 1/4's split was used - to fortify the stock in the event that the numbers underwhelm. And, IMHO, in the current environment for boxmakers, it appears to me that anything short of record setting growth in earnings and mkt share is going to be viewed as underwhelming.
