Verity links its software with Yahoo network
NEW YORK, April 12 (Reuters) - Verity Inc. (Nasdaq:VRTY - news) on Monday said it had signed an agreement to link its Web search software with Yahoo Inc.'s online media network.

Under the deal, Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Verity will provide a link between software used to set up company portal sites, or Internet launch pads, and My Yahoo!, a Yahoo service that allows users to personalize Web sites with services like news, financial information and weather.

Verity customers using the firm's Corporate Portal Guide software will be able to get access to My Yahoo's 13 free member services by clicking on the link icon.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Personalization, which allows Yahoo to deliver customized content and ads, has become an increasingly important part of the firm's service. Yahoo said its base of customers using the My Yahoo personalized service increased 12 million during the first quarter, reaching 47 million.

Yahoo, the largest Internet portal, gains most of its income from advertising. The more users it can attract to its network, the more advertising dollars it can bring in.

''We look forward to providing Verity's corporate portal customers with greater access to personalized Internet information from My Yahoo! and helping make more Verity users Yahoo! users,'' a Yahoo spokeswoman said in a statement.

Verity said the Yahoo deal offered its customers a greater range of services and simplified access to their company's information.

Verity's Corporate Portal Guide is part of software used to set up, organize and search through corporate Web sites.
