Cable & Wireless to announce plans tomorrow - Fore should get a boost internetwk.com Monday, April 12, 1999, 1:53 PM ET. Cable & Wireless To Disclose Network Plans By CHUCK MOOZAKIS Cable & Wireless on Tuesday will unveil a plan to spend as much as $670 million over the next few years in an effort to supply data and voice services to businesses and consumers nationwide. The carrier's Cable & Wireless USA Internet pipe will span more than 60 U.S. metropolitan areas, providing throughput at rates of up to OC-192 (9.6 Gbps). Cable & Wireless said it will use 15,000 miles of fiber from Level 3 Communications Inc. to build the network. Traffic will be directed via M40 high-speed routers from Juniper Networks and ASX 4000 ATM ForeRunner switches from Fore Systems Inc. The U.S. network--anticipated to be completed by summer 2001--will eventually tie into existing Cable & Wireless networks now in operation in Europe and in Asia.
