Thanks for posting this URL. While I haven't seen this particular article, nothing in it was new. It has all been posted in one form or another here in this thread. Its obviously a bit out of date already (storage net stuff) since the article was done before 3Com pre-announced.

It did have one bit of good news. EricB must have been aware that things were about to go sour when he made the following comment. First time he has acknowledged possibility of buyout...THANK GOD.

Lets get to it. Spin Off Palm and sell whats left. We would all be in Fat City.

With Lucent buying Ascend and Bay Networks Inc. having been acquired by Brampton, Ontario-based Northern Telecom Ltd., do you need to bulk up to compete?

Benhamou: The answer is no. We have looked at big mergers like Bay-Nortel, and we've rejected that--we've thought this [strategy] had a low chance of success. We've not completely ruled this out , but this is not a preferred path.
