Enterprise solutions have steep hardware requirements. Because it is necessary for every one to be connected we must have (FAST!!) devices that are able to handle, rout and monitor traffic. With the rise in internetworking popularity and computer telephony, our hardware is adapting to the internet. Faster is always better, it gives you the opportunity to take advantage of the innovative features of today's distributed software. Although applications may run over the internet they still require your CPU to be executed. To be able to take advantage of all the ("GEE WIZ") aspects of the software you need powerful hardware. Today we are integrating Voice Mail, E-Mail, Video Mail, Video Conferencing, VOIP and much more. Bandwidth is extremely important, but so is processing power. To optimize bandwidth data must be compressed before sent over the internet. The compression of data requires hardware, and in some cases (such as video conferencing) it requires a proprietary compression device because the load is too heavy for even a PII.
