ATMI's Emosyn Unit Announces Sciron Product Family for Smart Card Applications

Emosyn, the fabless semiconductor division of ATMI, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATMI) today announced the new Sciron Gold and Sciron Gold Lite family of memory-based integrated circuits for smart cards. Sciron memory products combine microcontroller-like security levels at serial memory prices.
The new Sciron memory products provide memory solutions to chip card integrators and are designed to meet the rigorous requirements for health, drivers' license, loyalty programs, and multi-application smart card applications. Suppliers to KVK (Kranken Versicherung Karte), the German health card system, are now preparing to incorporate recently approved Sciron smart card memories into their production processes.

The Sciron(TM) smart card memory solutions are available in wafer or module form. The Sciron Gold Lite Memory solutions have user-controlled write protection, use standard I2C and SPI two-wire interfaces, and offer simple security with 2-64Kbit densities.
The Sciron Gold Family of products are fully ISO compatible, offering densities from 1-64Kbit. They have enhanced security features with sophisticated levels of pin protection and an ability to incorporate unique customer coding in manufacture. The products are low power and have data retention greater than 100 years.
