[Cable & Wireless To Pay $670 Million For Level 3 Cable Network] LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Cable & Wireless PLC said Tuesday that it will invest $670 million in the U.S. to develop a high-capacity Internet network. C&W (CWP) has entered into an agreement with Level 3 Communications Inc. (LVLT) to purchase 15,000 route miles of fiber-optic cable that will enable Cable & Wireless to reach more than 50 metropolitan areas across the U.S. Graham Wallace, C&W's chief executive, said the investment "emphasizes our determination to be the clear leader in the Internet and data market."
